Network partners with flydubai to introduce Mobile Money Payments in Tanzania

Customers using flydubai in Tanzania can now enjoy paying for flight bookings using local mobile money payments following an expansion of our partnership with the Dubai-based airline. The partnership simplifies booking payments for customers while also boosting the growth of the mobile money ecosystem in Tanzania and its wider region. It is now the third market in East Africa to enable mobile money payments after successful launches in Kenya and Uganda, marking another step forward in expanding digital payment accessibility across East Africa. This mobile money expansion supports digital payments in Tanzania and enhances international travel convenience.
Customers in Tanzania can now pay for flights using options such as Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money when booking flights directly with flydubai online and on the flydubai mobile app. This caters to the growing demand for localised, secure and cashless payment experiences by Tanzanian travellers as they make transactions for bookings and other airline-related services. These mobile money payments reflect the growing demand for cashless payments and localized digital solutions.
This continued collaboration gives flydubai customers even greater flexibility by enabling secure, seamless mobile money payments alongside traditional cards. As mobile payments gain momentum, especially in East Africa, we’re proud to be at the forefront, enhancing customer convenience while driving innovation

Why Mobile Money Is Booming in Tanzania
According to the latest GSMA report Tanzania has emerged as one of the most successful mobile money markets in Africa. Between 2019 and 2023, the number of registered mobile money accounts in the country more than doubled from 26 million to 53 million, pushing penetration levels from 46% to 83%. During the same time, transaction volumes surged from $3 billion to $5.3 billion annually. This increased level of adoption reflects the growing roles that mobile money plays in financial access, inclusion and economic participation across the country.
